LunaGramm

Terms of Service

Last updated: 30 September 2026

LunaGramm is a free messenger. These terms are the deal between you and LunaGramm. Contact: support@lunagramm.site — or, faster, the LunaGramm Discord server (discord.gg/KBcHQhDHGf) or @LunaGramm inside LunaGramm

Getting hold of somebody

Privacy requests, abuse reports, copyright complaints and security reports should go to the email, so there is a record of them.

It is free, and offered as it is

LunaGramm is offered as it is, with no warranty of any kind. It may break, lose messages, go offline, or stop existing. Do not use it for anything you cannot afford to lose, and keep your own copy of anything that matters. Settings has a "Download my data" button for exactly that.

There is no paid plan and no obligation on anyone to keep the server running.

Where LunaGramm is offered

LunaGramm is not offered in Israel, Ukraine, Iran or Pakistan. The server refuses connections from addresses in those countries, and the app shows a screen saying so instead of signing in.

It goes by the address a connection comes from, not by anyone's nationality: somebody from one of those countries connecting from elsewhere is not affected, and a visitor connecting from inside one is. The address-to-country data is not perfect, so an address can occasionally be placed in the wrong country; if you think that has happened to you, write to support@lunagramm.site.

If you already have an account and now connect from one of those countries, you will not be able to sign in. To get a copy of your data or have the account deleted, write to support@lunagramm.site.

You have to be 14 or older

By making an account you confirm you are at least 14. If you are younger than that, you may not use LunaGramm. An account found to belong to someone under 14 will be removed.

Nothing checks this. There is no identity check, no document, no age estimate - the box on the sign-up screen is the whole of it, and it is said here rather than implied so nobody mistakes LunaGramm for a place that verifies who is on it.

Your account

Pick a password nobody can guess and do not share it. Everything done by your account is treated as done by you. Settings shows every device signed in and can end any of them; if you think somebody else is in your account, end them all and change your password.

One account per installation. Making many accounts to get around a freeze or a block is not allowed.

Some usernames are not available. @LunaGramm owns the server and @WarnsBot sends the warnings, and both exist before anybody can register them. A username ending in "bot" is reserved for accounts LunaGramm runs itself, so nothing that talks to you can pretend to be the service. A username chosen to be mistaken for staff, or for somebody else, can be taken back and given to nobody.

What you may not do

Content you send stays yours. You give permission only to store it and show it to the people you sent it to, which is what a messenger needs to work.

LunaGramm connects to other servers, and those are not ours

The server box on the sign-in screen takes any address. Leave it empty and the app talks to LunaGramm's own server, which is what these terms are about. Type something else and the app talks to a machine run by somebody else.

On somebody else's server:

The software is the same; the server is not. Only type an address you would trust with the conversations you are going to have on it.

Reports and moderation

Any message can be reported from its menu, including in a secret chat: your app attaches the lines, decrypted, at the moment you report. Reports go to the owner and to the moderators, who can warn an account, freeze it, or remove content.

Moderators see what was attached to a report and nothing else. Nobody can open your conversation from their side, and each attached line is marked with whether the server's own copy of it agrees - so a report cannot be used to put words in somebody's mouth.

A moderator can send a warning instead of freezing. A warning arrives as a message from @LunaGrammBot, which is LunaGramm speaking rather than a person: nothing reads replies sent to that chat. Warnings are written down, so a second report about the same behaviour is seen as the second one. @LunaGrammBot also tells you about every new sign-in to your account, about new versions of LunaGramm, and when your account is frozen or released.

An account can also be frozen automatically: when at least 10 different people, each with an account at least 3 days old, report it within 24 hours for at least 2 different reasons. Staff are told straight away and look at it, and the reports stay in the queue until they do. Many reports that all give the same reason are left to a person to judge, never frozen automatically.

A frozen account can read but not post, and can still write to the owner to appeal. After 30 days frozen it is deleted along with everything in it.

In an emergency - a flood of spam accounts, or an attack on the service - the owner can stop new accounts being made for a while, freeze accounts made in the last few hours, or make LunaGramm read-only for everyone but staff. Anyone frozen that way is told why and can appeal like anyone else.

Moderation is done by people, in their own time, with no guaranteed response time. A decision can be appealed by writing to the owner.

Secret chats

A secret chat is encrypted on your machine and decrypted on theirs. The server stores bytes it cannot read, which means nobody running LunaGramm can read them either - and also means nobody running LunaGramm can help you with them.

What that costs, plainly:

Reporting still works: your own app attaches the messages, decrypted, at the moment you report them.

Moons

Moons are a number attached to your account for use inside LunaGramm. They are not money, not a currency, not an investment, and cannot be cashed out, sold, or transferred to anyone else.

Today Moons are given out free and cannot be bought. If buying them is ever switched on:

Groups and channels

A public channel is public. Anyone can find it in search, read everything in it, and join without being invited. Treat a public channel as something written on a wall rather than something said in a room. A private group or channel is reachable only through an invite link its admins hand out, and that link can be replaced whenever they like.

If you run a group or a channel, you are responsible for what is in it. Admins can delete messages, remove people and ban them, and are expected to. A room whose admins let it become a place for the things listed above can be taken down whole, along with the accounts running it.

Copyright

If something on LunaGramm's server infringes your copyright, write to support@lunagramm.site with: what the work is, where it is on LunaGramm, enough to show the right is yours, and how to reach you. Anything that clearly infringes is removed, and repeat infringers lose their accounts.

If something of yours was removed and you think that was wrong, reply to the same address and say so.

Reporting a security problem

If you find a hole - a way to read somebody else's messages, to get past the moderation tools, to take over an account - write to support@lunagramm.site before telling anybody else, and give it a reasonable time to be fixed.

Looking for problems in good faith is welcome and will not get your account frozen, as long as you stay inside these lines: use your own accounts, do not read or keep anybody else's data, do not degrade the service for other people, and do not run anything destructive. Step outside those and it stops being research.

Limits

Up to 200 MB per file, and 1 GB per account in total. These can change without notice as the server's disk allows.

Ending it

Delete your account any time in Settings, under My Account. Your account, your messages, the files you uploaded and your Moons are removed from the running server immediately, and none of it can be brought back.

One honest caveat, because the privacy policy would otherwise contradict this: the server keeps a daily backup of its database and holds the most recent thirty. Something deleted today can still exist inside a backup taken yesterday, for up to thirty days, until that copy is deleted in its turn. Backups exist to recover from a dead disk and are never used to undo somebody's deletion.

The owner may suspend or delete an account that breaks these terms, or close the service entirely, with notice where that is possible and without it where it is not.

Liability

To the fullest extent the law allows, nobody running LunaGramm is liable for lost messages, lost Moons, downtime, or anything that follows from using it. Nothing here removes rights that consumer law gives you and cannot be signed away.

These terms can change

Material changes will be announced in the app before they take effect. Using LunaGramm after that means accepting them.

Law

These terms are governed by the law of Cyprus, and its courts have jurisdiction, without taking away any protection you have under the law where you live.
